DELAYED DIAGNOSES

INCREASED RISK OF DEATH

URGENT NEED FOR EQUIPMENT

In 2020, cancer screening was paused due to COVID-19.

The health system is bracing for a tsunami of later stage diagnoses.

For every month of delay, the risk of dying increases on average by 10%.

We must invest in new medical equipment to deal with the pandemic ripple effect.

EARLY DIAGNOSIS

Moncton NB

The Moncton Hospital hopes to secure $1.1 MILLION to be invested into two 3D Mammography Screening Units for the hospital’s Katherine Wright Centre to help with the early detection of breast cancer. This upgrade will allow us to transition from a conventional Digital Mammogram (2D image) to Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (3D image) technology.

MONTREAL, QC

When you are hit with the news that you have a lump in your breast, you want to have it checked right away. Finding a place to have a mammogram rapidly is not always easy, but I heard about the Queen Elizabeth Health Complex (QEHC) and its Breast Cancer Detection Centre. My gratitude to the QEHC’s Breast Health Center is boundless. The QEHC Breast Health Clinic is one of few clinics that operates a 3-D tomosynthesis software. This advanced form of breast imaging uses a low-dose x-ray to create 3-D images which are key in the early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer. If it had not been for the amazing 3-D mammography technology they use, my cancer would have gone undetected.
