Hope Air: 120 FREE flights to medical care for low-income patients with breast cancer

For breast cancer patients living in remote areas face, the barriers to accessing medical care can be enormous. Patients like Margaret, from Salmo, B.C., who discovered she had breast cancer and a large mass in her pelvis and would have to drive 7 hours to Vancouver in order to get the care she needed (Read more of Margeret’s story here). Together, the CURE Foundation and Hope Air are helping patients with breast cancer overcome financial and geographical barriers to ensure equal access to health care, regardless of income or location!

2015

In February 2015, Arlene was diagnosed with breast cancer. Living in Smithers, BC, she first travelled to Prince George and Terrace for treatment, before she was referred to Vancouver, because of greater access to the specialized equipment needed to treat her. But the 14 hour drive seemed an unbearable feat amidst the stress this news had already caused her and her family. Thanks to Hope Air, Arlene was able to fly to Vancouver for her treatments, which included four core biopsies and 11 mammograms. Thankfully, Arlene was told later that year that all the cancer had been removed. At the CURE Foundation, we are dedicated to ensuring no lives are lost to breast cancer due to a lack of funding. By providing financial support to Hope Air, we are achieving that goal.
