The Impact of National Denim Day Donors
Thanks to our generous National Denim Day donors, sponsors, and partners, the CURE Foundation is committed to funding this metastatic breast cancer research project with the hope of bringing a brighter tomorrow for all patients and their families.
Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer and the leading cause of cancer death in women worldwide.
The aggressive nature of certain breast cancer types poses grave challenges, particularly when it comes to metastasis—the process by which cancer spreads to other parts of the body.
The CURE Foundation, in collaboration with the Canadian Cancer Society and the Cancer Research Society, is funding a critical life-saving research project.
This initiative led by Mount Sinai in Toronto aims to identify factors that enable cancer cells to move and spread, and to develop strategies to impede their movement.
This research project represents significant steps forward in the development of more effective treatments and the exploration of innovative strategies.
Thanks to our generous National Denim Day donors, sponsors, and partners, the CURE Foundation is funding this metastatic breast cancer research project with the hope of bringing a brighter tomorrow for all patients and their families.
What is metastatic breast cancer?
Also known as stage IV breast cancer, this type of breast cancer has spread to another part of the body.
Strategies targeting the primary tumor have markedly improved, but systemic treatments to prevent metastasis are less effective; metastatic disease, or the spread of tumor cells throughout the body, remains the underlying cause of death in the majority of breast cancer patients who succumb to their disease.
Metastatic disease is responsible for the vast majority of cancer patient deaths. The importance of understanding the mechanisms underlying the metastatic process, and providing valuable insights into the underlying cause of metastasis in breast cancer is widely recognized.
While medicine therapies and treatment are continuously evolving, metastatic breast cancer remains incurable.
